Well, I think it's time to move past a DI filter and get a RODI. What is the best RODI unit to get? As most of us here, I would love to save a dime... but not at the sacrifice of quality. Another important factor is the ease of replcement cartridges. Thanks for any input.

I've had one of these for at least 3 years

and 2 years down the road, I bought one of these along with filters that I didn't need since the TDS was still at 0

If I could do it all over, I'd buy one with a higher GPD ratio.

Works great- no leaks and no problems.

I have a generic one , but i have done some re-search and I am gonna buy from "thefilterguys.com" - they seem reasonable and have all the replacement parts.

IMO the BEST hobbiest RODI is the Spectrapure Max Cap RODI. Is it worth $400+ dollars? Thats another story. I think it depends on how much water you use and how much money you have.

If I had to buy a RO/DI unit today, that's the one I would get. Are more expensive units better, when both will produce 0 tds water? I don't think so. You also have the option to buy replacement filters from that vendor, so that's a moot point.

I purchased my "ebay unit" used about a 1/2 year ago, and it's still producing 0 tds water (despite my tap water being over 80 ppm lately).

***Side note: Has anyone else noticed a dramatic decrease in their tap water quality lately?

Thanks for the input everyone.
Would there be any reason to believe that the ebay unit would go through cartridges faster? Also, does anyone know how long that ebay vendor has been around? I would hate to buy one only to have the vendor disappear. And last, is their ANY standardization in cartridge sizes or does just about every make/model use it's own size?

<span style="color: black;">My procedure has been to email the vender a couple times. see the speed of response and there nature. From the looks of it, he’s been in business since 01-2005, and 99.4% good feedback.</span>
<span style="color: black;"> </span>
<span style="color: black;">Based on that, come time to get a unit I’m going with him.</span>

I bought an ebay unit. It was made by water general. Looks like the one you are getting except mine has clear housings.

Mine has been running about 2 years now, and it still produces 0ppm water!

Make sure that the filters are standard size filters (look to be), so you can buy them anywhere.

Our water here Is awesome, Less than 100 tds. That one will work, and if you use less than 200 gallons a month its hard to justify spending more.

Id check the membrane manufacture specs to see if it really gets 98% rejection. I think there playing a trick with words, not sure. You use to need a 75 GPD to get that high of rejection rate 96-98%.

You might ask if they can give you a 75 GPD Filmtec or GE membrane. your DI will last longer with the higher rejection rate membranes.

I use this one, slightly modified. They let me have the 75 gpd membranes instead. I like the clear housings

This is the one I ordered. http://www.melevsreef.com/ro_di.html">http://www.melevsreef.com/ro_di.html</a>
I have been very pleased. Mark has some good info on his site as well.

I purchased the Aquarium II version from this ebay vendor several years ago, along with the box of replacement cartridges, and a TDS meter several years ago. I have been very happy. I know that several other members purchased from them at the same time and we all were happy.

Thanks again for the input everyone.
So, It looks like I am going to try the ebay route. Being that I only run two 55 gallons tanks (and about 32 average tap TDS)... I will not be exceeding an average of 100 gallons per month. In regards to the clear housings... is there a benefit to this? Will the cartridge appearance indicate anything that a TDS meter wouldn't? I'm with Roland... I like the clear housings, but I'm curoius if it's a necessity.

Good rejection membrane and multiple DI cartridge would do the trick.

Here is my 9 stage, quad DI unit.

The clear housing won't really tell you much, but for me, it just reminds me to flush the system to keep it clean.

I just like being able to see my filters. no benefit really.
