I've been buying water up to now, but received an RO/DI unit for Xmas (:D ) and want to start making my own. The water I've been getting uses IO, but I'm definitely open to other suggestions? What do you use? This is for a 20G so I shouldn't go through it very fast so I'm open to slightly "pricier" stuff.

TIA

I use Instant Ocean....check out this thread

If you're using Instant Ocean for a reef tank, be sure to keep a close eye on your magnesium.

We have been using Tropic Marin for about a year now and have had no problems. Its pricier than alot of salts but it is really a personal preference.

Used instant ocean for few months, my calcium and mag both were testing low. But come to find out were exactly the params. of IO. Went back to RC, numbers are back up.

it doesn't matter that much in the overall picture, however, I use Seachem Reef (and I did use TMPR), so i don't have to worry about Mag, Calcium, & PH so much. I dose less, save money.

I use Seachem Reef Salt in the store. It is a great salt mix.

Calcium 440 to 480
Magnesium 1300 to 1400
dKH 10 degrees

And I sell it for the low price of $39.99. It seems to work better in my store than the reef crystals I used previously.

+ a discount? wow, nice deal either way. I'll def try that out when my IO runs out.

I do not discount dry goods because they are already the best prices around. :) F&S sells this salt for $44.99, you know its a good price when I can beat the largest etailer's price. :D

I used to use IO but didn't seem to dissolve too well. Used a small bag of red sea and I it shot my alk way up; over 400!!!!. Switched to Oceanic and could not be happier. I do weekly water changes and all of my trace elements are replineshed. I'm surprised more people don't use it. JMO and experience though.

Thanks for all the replies and link (Notireef). I think based on everything I've read today that I'll be going with Seachem or Red Sea.

I'm also using Oceanic. That stuff sure does mix quickly. Also has really good levels of calium. I've been quite happy with the mix.
