I have been using a clip to feed my tangs but I find after a few hard pulls by the larger tangs large chunks of it just peel off and float all over my tank, stick to the overflows and get into my filter sock making it HARD TO CLEAN! not to mention affecting my water quality. what do you guys do? Ive tried rubberbanding it to a rock, tried feeding more (to hold up by folding several times, ive tried just a tiny bit but still get it everywhere.

i use the ocean nutrition brand seaweed sheets

I use one of the clips that have the mesh flap that you put the nori in. I think they are actually marketed for feeding gel-based foods. They have a little bit harder of a time pulling it out of the clip.

I almost bought one the other day - but thought better of it since I have 2 clips already. I guess I will pony up the $2.99......again. maybe its the sheets I am using as I didnt seem to have such a problem with other kinds. I am going to pick up some nori tommorow at the japanese market to see how it holds up...cheaper too from what I hear..thank you:thumbs:

Or you could always put in so many tangs that you just toss a whole sheet in and it's gone in 30 seconds... I've seen that before and it's like a shark feeding frenzy.

I made a feeder that is a piece of egg crate attached to acrylic and the nori is sanwiched between the two. It has a j bend in the arm to hang on the tank.

I roll mine into a tube, fold it in half and clamp it on. Only a small piece every now and then may come off, but it is quickly eaten by my flame angel. The tangs rip into the clip

YEP. Thats what I do too. Twist it up like a ... a cigarette:confused2:... and clip it on. The clip holds the sheet, but I was having a problem with the whole clip coming loose (suction cup). I tied some fishing line to it..and they seem to have fun pecking at it if it comes off. It just bobs around.

My algae clip is attached to fishing line and adhered to the top of my tank with a 3M tyrap fastener...or "sticky back" is what I call them.. This prevents me from having to dig out the clip from the bottom of the tank once the suction cup fails, and also prevents the issue you are having...when the Tangs tug on the algae it goes with them instead of being tugged out of the clip. Now I will tell you that on occasion the algae will break free and float around the tank, so Im not sure it is 100% preventable, but its normally eaten within a minute in my tank anyways... and I normally feed two full sheets daily folded over twice..

Here is a video so you can see what I mean....

James,I use some string to hold my clips as well,( I hate the suction cups)Then when I open the pack of nori,I take my scissors and cut 1/4" slivers length ways in the nori so when the tangs come up and grab the sheet, they only tear off one strip at a time and then move off somewhere to eat while another tang comes in to grab a bite.
I have a video of them eating,I'll look for it or else I'll go make another one.

just fold/role up the nori and then clip it. then they cant rip off big sheets.

I gave up on the clips and crinkle the pieces of nori, soak it in a cup with garlic for a couple of minutes, then use tweezers to feed the tank. Because of the garlic, the nori immediately breaks up and the tangs and foxface chase the pieces around the tank until it is all gone.

If the suction cup looses its "suck" try boiling the clip. It will regenerate the suction cup and all is well.

I grab it, stick it in the tank, and roll it around in my fingers for about a minute while it breaks apart. It's like nori flakes for the whole tank and almost all my inhabitants go crazy. If I left it on the clip my Scopas and sixline would fight everyone off of it and none of the other fish/shrimps would get any.

HA - When my neighbor was on vacation I had to go over and feed his aggressive Fish Only 400 gal setup. I put it on the clip and went to put it in when his 12" mean a** Harlequin Tusk about took my fingers off and shredded it like a pitbull with a stuffed animal. I think I screamed like a girl...

OK, very interesting. I like the string idea since I hate puttin my hand in just to add food....i will employ this method tonight when i get home. Just got some Nori from the Japanese store....$2.00 for 10 HUGE sheets of the good stuff. awesome
