Hey all,

Im taking down (or rather, moving) my 90 tomorrow and some of the SPS frags have encrusted on rocks i dont want to keep or have encrusted to close to each other. Whats the best way to get them off the rocks once they are encrusted?

Thanks,
Jorge

Shouldn't be any real reason to move them off the rocks. With encrusted corals, the trick is to have enough smaller containers to move them in. Go to a LFS and get several (or many) extruded foam boxes live fish are delivered in. Pack them a few corals and some bare rock each.

It works well, and you dont have to worry about re-attaching them later.

Take off some rock with a chisel or sharp blade (depending on the type of rock).

If you use a chisel, score the rock where you want it to break and make sure you use a decent chisel. You should get a nice sliver of rock with your coral

ahh...thats sounds like a good idea Raj...thanks.

as for why im removing the rock, mostly because I really dont like some of the rocks in my tank currently so I am going to give them to the new owner of the tank (aka - my brother) and also because some of the corals are too close together (thats my fault but part of the reason I now have a bigger tank...hehe)
