Best way to siphon/clean my sump

I have seen several threads that describe how people maintain their sumps/refugiums by regularly siphoning out the detritus. Since my sump is below the tank (on the floor) I'm not sure how to siphon out the water and detritus. I suppose I need a pump for this purpose.

What is the best, least expensive pump to purchase for doing this job? I assume it needs an intake and outflow that can accept tubing in order to get the crud out of the corners.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

+1 on the Python. Just get any large pieces of rock/sand out before you use it. Pythons don't like chunks of anything.

It's a one gallon size, so you make sure that you have the hose on the bottom of the sump. I even try to move the detreous to one area with a spatula. I have the wetvac in a 12 gallon recycle bin so there is no water sqirting out. I only do this 4 times a yea, but it's really quick.
