ok im in a skimmer mood
Im running a ER CS6-2+ on a 120 mixed reef right now. What skimmer would offer me an upgrade in performance... and the important question is (why)?

Thanks for any insight.

Hate to answer a question with a question but... If its not broke why fix it? What are your reasons for wanting to change... what are you looking for that your not getting out of this skimmer?

I feel like its a little small for the system.. I'm dumping a full cup of skimate ever other day or so.... given.. im skimming wet.. but its black and stinky crap that I don't want in my tank.

It sounds like it is pulling the skimmate out well, does it have a valve for an external collection container or can it be modified to do so?

its kind of like having a perfectly good car, but wanting a new one anyhow i guess.

hopefully it will pass soon haha.

I have a gallon jug on my skimmer, I only have to empty it once a week that way. :) I have a CS 8-3 + for about 5 years now and still love it. If you want to try and improve, you could always try a different pump on it...

only thing im really missing is a Ca Reactor, but they have always put me off by seeming hard to dial in and such.. and I don't want another liability on my tank (something that can nuke it).

Maybe im just overly protective.

not to knock your choice, but i had a recirc 150 octopus on that cube you bought, and sold it after about 6 months. The pump was loud, and I couldn't get it to produce what i thought it should.

Don't be scared of a calc reactor. The better units are set it and forget it after the target has been reached. You just need to initially watch the PH during the tuning period. Remember that it isn't just calcium they provide the tank. You will be glad you did it.
