I am looking into getting a new sump. I need more room. I currently just use bio balls, skimmer, just added reactor, and return pump. It also has sponge filter.

What would be the best one to go with now? I see a lot with filter socks, but no bio balls or anything.

I just started and only have a few fish and an anemone, but I hope to have more corals for a reef tank.

Thanks!

Bioballs are not really considered an intergral part of today's reef tanks. Most reefers stopped using them years ago as they can lead to high nitrate levels.

What size is your display tank? What size is the sump you have now? You need more room? Do you mean to house equipment? What kind of fish/bioload do you currently have? Are you wanting to create an SPS dominant tank?

We purchased a used 90 bow front. After 4 months it sprung a leak so we had to get a new and I went with 120 gallon. I believe the sump is a 20 gallon now. Just purchased a new Bubble Magus Curve 7 skimmer which say water level in sump needs to be 9 1/2 - 11 inches. In the current sump when the pumps are off water rises to less than a 1/2 inch of flooding (scary) so I need a sump that is higher. It will house the skimmer, return pump, and the pump to the new BRS dual reactor. I think I would like the skimmer in a separate compartment than the return pump and filter. I would like to have an SPS tank in the future.

Currently have:
Clown
Foxfish
2 Blue Reef Chromis
Flame Hawkfish
Tiger Goby
2 cleaner shrimp
Red bubble tip anemone
Green mushroom
a few polyps

Thanks

look into using a 40 breeder as a sump if it will fit under your tank. its twice the volume so you should not even come close to flooding. and its pretty easy to design and build a sump yourself using acrylic you can get at lowes or home depot.

Edit: also instead of using bioballs check out matrix the same amount of matrix will do like 100 times the work of bioballs

The dimensions on mine are 36" x 18" x 16". Don't know if it's still happening or not, but Petco will do the dollar per gallon sale... might be worth a phone call they had one going on a couple of weeks ago. Hope it helps
