Biocube 29g

I have had the exact problem that you are having with the "green water". It's a bacteria bloom, and the only way that you can get rid of it is to do a 8o% water change. That is the only way I have found that cures a problem such as this.

I dont think I would risk an 80% change. That will likely stress or Kill anything in your tank. Maybe a series of 25% WC would be better, but not 80 % all at once.. Some of the more experienced people can correct me if I'm wrong..

80% at once is RISKY... I would say do 5 gal every 2 days or so. If you have to step it up to every day do that. I do suggest a little hang on skimmer. Even running a few hours a day would be very helpful.

yeah I have already done a 90% before I had any risky live stock in there and it cleared up for a while then immediately it was back I was just thinking and stupid me I used sand from 55 that I was getting rid of then added one new bag and I beive that was my problem I have been reading up and its been so long ago I cant recall if I did use that sand or not but now I believe I did because it was all around the same time would y'all think that is the cause of this problem

I'm not saying to do a 80% water change all at once, I'm saying do it in increments over a 24 to 48 hour period. To do a 80% change all at one time would be murder to a established reef tank. My apologizes for not specifying what I meant exactly.

Another option you have is to use extra filter media. Such as phosphate control, and carbon filters. With that being said a protein skimmer is always a good thing to add on.

that's alright since this has been like the 5th week of me trying to constantly to do something to correct it I moved all my live stock over to the 75 that I have and all that was were two clown fish three frags and a watchmen goby and a rock covered with star polyps
for the biocube we diagnosed as the sand the guy at a local lfs looked at it and he said it was the sand and that it was unusable and we sat and discussed it over so I shut it down and moved it over to the 75 and now I am going to completely start over on it and now I am waiting on it to fill back up with ro water then add new sand to it and start cycling

thanks for the suggestion though I have had three mini cycles due to the wc's and I didn't want to stress the fish out any more. I would hate to loose any it was to big of a risk

did that sound stupid to anyone for me to do this and would this bio load freak out the 75 gallon if I stick to having a 10% water change a week
