Long story short my 165w chinese led fell into my tank during set up. The light was NOT plugged in. Do you think its savable? maybe take it apart and wipe it with alcohol?

Take it apart and fill it up with rice before you try and turn it on. DO NOT TURN IT ON til it's completely dry

If it was off then its fine. Just take it apart and clean out all the water and dried salt before you turn it on again. Alcohol works well also.

Just make sure all the water and salt is gone before you turn it on.

Do this... After you rinse the whole thing out with either RO/DI or distilled water. I mean rinse it good.
It's not the water that causes problems or shorts it's the salt and minerals in the water. This really becomes a problem when the water evaporates and the residue is left behind. It's that reside that will cross circuits causing a short. Rinsing or even soaking it with mineral free water will pull all that stuff out and help stop future corrosion.

Depending on if it was submerged completely or not I might actually soak it twice. Dry it as best you can then fill the whole thing up with rice and tie it tightly in a plastic bag. Then let it sit for a day or two. After it's thoroughly dried you'll be good to go.

There aren't nearly the kinds of small circuits in a black box as there are in a phone. That's why you can skip the alcohol and use rice, unless you're in a real hurry that is.

Six years later, it's still working.
