A friend of mine just bought a complete set up that has bioballs in the sump. I don't have pictures but the water comes down to the sump from a built in overflow in the tank and is somehow evenly dispersed over the top of the bio ball section of the sump. It then flows into a second section with a protein skimmer and the pump for return access to the tank.
Should the bio balls be replaced with some other media? Maybe live rock? Or base rock that can become live rock?
I don't know if that section can hold water but if it can, can he put in cheato and hang a grow light off the back?
