Break in skimmer

I think you want to run fully open to prime/coat the skimmer body with slimy stuff from your water. Or something like this will happen. see how my skimmer pretty much try to skim inside the body because I didnt dial it properly... Although this skimmer was on my system for about two week before taking the photo. And that is the first load of skimmate from fish less tank.

IMO just run it. It will break in. I'm not sure you can speed the process. At any rate it won't take long. A good skimmer will start pulling in a few hours

The break in point ends after a few days, the skimmer will work right out of the box but its not until it is broken in that you will have your final adjustment on it for the set point.
That little slime coat that builds up in the body is a big deal with some of these skimmers.
