I was wondering if anyone was using any of the Brightwell products on thier current tanks? I spoke with a rep at Saltwater City on Saturday and was impressed on what he had to say about the chemicals and also on their large line of products. I have been in the market for a 2part and they have one of their own. I also had a question about their Kalk+2 because it says that it also has Mag and strontium in it and I didn't think other brands of Kalk combined these supplements in their kalk? I picked up a bottle of their Max Amino and have used it twice w/flake food and up until I added the Max Amino my clowns had never showed any interest in flake food and at both feedings they ate like pigs.

I use their Max Amino too and all of my fish loooove it and eat like pigs!~ Good stuff!

If I am not mistaken, the Brightwell line was created by the guy that did a lot of the Kent stuff. In theory, it should be no worse than their product line.

I picked up the 2 part Brightwell chem at Sal's store on Sat. The rep said "it stays in the water column longer than the others". They also don't dilute (as bad as the others), so you can use less. I have only started to use the 2 part, so only time will tell. Price was only about 13 each, not sure if it was a special or what the others cost.
I'll keep you posted....

I use their Kalk+2, and it seems my mag is more stable. Sam at Aqua Buys carrys their products as well.

Kalk+2 according to Randy Holmes-Farley is snake oil. His tests showed that adding Mag into the Kalk mix does virtually nothing.

I posted this in another thread:

Here is a Randy Holmes Farley comment on that stuff:

So sad. Another case of a company not understanding their own product. At least I hope that's the case, and it is not an intentional scam.

"Formulated by a marine scientist"

Well, that marine scientist apparently does not understand chemistry, and apparently did not read my article where I demonstrated that such a product could not work the way he describes.

No, it cannot be used like normal limewater, as the magnesium will be totally insoluble and will settle to the bottom of a reactor or a still limewater reservoir. But he also says it should not be dosed directly, and must be dissolved first, so there is no way to use the magnesium.

I show that magnesium settles out of limewater here:

I didn't realize that the chemist behind the Brightwell products was Kent formerly of Kent Products. If that is the case then I may have to rethink some of what they are selling. Not that Kent Products are bad or Brightwell are bad but how much of a difference there maybe between the two product lines and how much is "snake oil".
