I have always had bristol worms in both my tanks. Every now and then I grab one and flush them, but don't really know if they harm anything. They havn't ever messed with my corals, I guess my only complaint with them is they eat away at the rocks a little. Is there any harm in keeping these in my tank?

Bristleworms are beneficial to your tank. They are good janitors and the vast majority of worms in general, will not harm anything.

If something dies, they'll devour it quickly but that's better than something decaying and fouling the water.

If you have a dense population of bristleworms, you are probably over-feeding. If you just see the occasional one, that's good, leave it be. There are more in the rocks and substrate, but that's just fine.

Love thy worms.

Thanks Jenn. I also meant to ask about brittle starfish in this thread to. Are they good to have? How big can they get? I just know nothing about this kind of starfish. Thanks again..

Large brittle stars? I don't suggest them if you keep small peaceful fishes. The stars tend to eat them. They go into "hunting mode": they tent their bodies up, resting on their legs, and when a small, unsuspecting fish swims under them, they drop down on it and eat it.

Shimek's Pocket Expert Guide to Marine Invertebrates dubs them, "Green Death".

The smooth-legged serpent stars are a better choice, as they seem to be less likely to prey on your fish.

The tiny serpents and brittles that have an overall diameter the size of a quarter or less (legs included) are harmless and are actually good janitors too. These don't grow larger than that, and are beneficial.

I'm pretty sure they are the smaller ones. I've had them for quiet some time and they havn't gotten much bigger.

This is a green brittle star - aka "green death"

It's in "hunting mode" - the body is raised off the substrate.

This is a mini one:

Pretty easy to tell the difference.
