I continuously having to keep suctioning out this brown algea/dirt looking stuff that settles on the bottom of my frag tank. Not sure how to prevent i from getting in there but its driving me nuts along with the rest of my problems. It also appears to be growing on some of the rocks? I know a picture is worth a million words but any ideas on this stuff?

detritus? SP? Isn't that a normal thing? Could you adjust flow to try and get it suspended in the water column and then filter/skim it out?

doubt its detritus but not ruling it out. The frag tank as an mp10 with crest mode so not sure how else to adjust the flow in there...

It's detritus man. As for preventing try short pulse mode on the mp10. Also since it is a bare bottom frag tank it is going to be pretty hard to prevent it from forming. The best you could do is to create a flow in which the nutrients or waste to be allowed to settle on the bottom. Which is done by creating some type of flow that constantly stirs/agitates the bottom surface. Hope this helps. If you need a hand or further explanation just give me a text/call.

Yeah... It's a pain, but better to have it collect there than in the tank where you can't get to it. Got the same thing goin on.

grrr, thanks for the update guys as its just one more pain in my....oh well guess its better to be easy to clean up than not

just vacuum it out its way more efficient than trying to get it skimmed out. especially if it piles up. just run a siphon over there and let it rip

Everything poops. Even detritivores.

Just vacuum it up.

you can move the mp10 closer to the bottom of the tank to lift up the detritus and suspend it in the water column but this wont fix the issue. a bigger skimmer will help some but your best option is to siphon it out. one plus for siphoning is that it forces you to stay on top of your water changes.

Drill holes into a Small PVC pipe the length of your frag tank. Then hook a maxijet 1200 to it have it sweeping the bottom

Not a bad idea...i might try this. Im going to switch up the flow pattern of the mp10 first and then go from there...

I'm setting up a bare bottom frag tank for myself and thought about how to keep the bottom stirred up. That's where my idea came from
