Which comes first phosphate remover or carbon and why? It is labeled for phosphate remover (GFO) and then carbon but I have read somewhere that you may consider running the other way around as not to leach phosphate from the carbon back into the aquarium. Let me know your thoughts

I run the Carbon first, 1 for the reason you stated and 2 because the 1st stage will pick up more "stuff" from the water and clog up quicker and need to be replaced more often than the 2nd stage and carbon is much cheaper than GFO.

BRS recommends you run the GFO first so the GAC can catch any fines that come from the GFO. If you are worried about phosphates from your carbon, then you need another brand. There are too many phosphate free brands available for that to be an issue.

+1 I feel by not doing this has led to some issues of rtn from some people who have run gfo and not the carbon.
