Long story short I purchased a preowned (but never wet) Gen 2 MBK200 from a user on the "other message board". The purchase was still expensive, but I did manage to save around $400.

This is a "First Impressions" review. I will post a video review later, once I have had it running a few days. I know its hard to do without pics, but just hang in there with me.. its coming.

The first thing I noticed was the SIZE of the body. It's only about 22 inches or so tall, but the ENTIRE footprint is taken up by the BODY TUBE. Because if this it really looks short and squat when the cup isn't on it. VERY heavy material. Very well made, as I expected.

This 2nd gen comes with a Red Dragon pump that states "special for the mini 200" whatever THAT means (but it still made me grin). The factory label on the pump states 1700 LH at 38 w/h. The gen 1s were at 1000 LH at the same w/h.

Once I gave everything the once over I sat it in my sump ( it JUST fit) and plugged it in. The pump kicked on and started creating an insane amount of macro bubbles in the body tube. The thing that struck me, though, is that the skimmer runs DEAD quiet. I mean SILENT. The sound of the froth popping at the top of the body is actually louder than anything else on the skimmer (a HUGE improvement over my last skimmer).

At this point I took the 200 lb (or so it seemed) collection cup and gently sat it in its place. The cup doesn't screw, bolt, or fasten on, it just sits there (its heavy enough so that it doesn't leak around the base).

And, that's where I am now, waiting on the skimmer to really break in. After running for about 12 hours I noticed froth about 1/2 the way up the cup neck, but no skimmate yet.

I checked on it over lunch. It is making brown dry foam at this point inside the riser tube leading to the cup. Much more than this morning, but still no skimmate in the cup to remove. I think I will need to raise the water level a little in the body is all.

I cant wait to see your pictures...I saw a Bubble King on Youtube that looked absolutely amazing in foam production...tiny bubbles!

I do have to say that the foam is different than it was on my ER and my Octopus. It just seems to be more...... substantial. Almost like you could just reach in and grab a hand full of it.

Yeah, in the video I saw, it almost looked like cappucinno. A huge difference from my MRC-1 which is actually putting out very large bubbles. It starts with tiny, but then the bubbles that wind up spilling over are Pea sized. They are even in my collection container too.

I don't know if you have noticed or not, but the inner riser tube slides into the cup asembly. It is not glued, but is sealed by a small diameter O-Ring. Comes apart for cleaning.

Ncie feature about the BK Minis is that the entire riser tube assembly is built into the collection cup, so every time you clean the cup you clean the riser tube as well. No need to get into the body for that, but the whole thing comes apart for complete cleaning if necessary.

Get ready to gag the first time you clean it.

how/where does the RD pump attach to it?
and what size is the pump?

(I'm trying to figure out the smallest footprint it can have)

Pump sits inside the skimmer body on the bottom. Any online BK dealer will have the footprint of every BK skimmer. One of our Sponsors has it.

Here's the BK section of Aquarium Specialty.

Only thing is the pump states 1700 l/h instead of what most webpages post as 1000. It's the difference n gen 1 and 2 (according to Albert at Proline)
