I have a question hopefully somebody will know the answer to. I am starting a new aquarium with live rock. Live rock contains hairy algae in a lot of other gnarly stuff on it. I am getting air bubbles forming around the algae. Is this a good thing, bad thing, or nothing to worry about?

It's just signs of photosynthesis the high ammonia and nitrates from the cycle fuel the algae . The plants are making oxygen from dissolved c02 in the water.
Its not something usually seen because most people don't keep algae in there display.
I see it in my fw plants all the time.
If your cycling there is no need to run the lights , leaving them off 4-5 days maybe longee will kill the hair algae I'd it gets out of hand.

its also a sign that you're lacking flow in your tank. there should be more than enough flow to knock the bubbles loose as they form in a saltwater tank.
