I have been kicking around fabricating a mh light fixture. I want it to be stand alone so I can use it/move it to multiple tanks. I have bulbs, mogul sockets and ballasts. I've thought of using fiberglass wet lay-up (same thing that is used for Corvettes and boats) to make the housing. Stuff I have is 175watts. Does anyone hae any idea if the heat from the bulb will be too much for the fiberglass from the mh bulb. (still looking into reflector)

I would think that if the fiberglass can withstand the heat from an engine compartment, it'll be alright near your 175...

with a reflector between the fiberglass and the bulb, the fiberglass will hardly even get warm...

I tested one of my 250W MH's a couple months ago curious about the same thing...

Cool....Thanks for the input. Will let you know how it does when / if I get this project going.
