Doing my BRS buy and am going to replace my bulkheads - im hard piping my set up soon. what is the best bulkhead type to use? I am thinking thread by slip (thread on top side) to use less fittings, sound like a plan? spring for the sched 80 or no?

thread on flange side? that means the threads would be on top, no? the pic is opposite what they are selling...i assume its a stock photo and that is why they had to explain it..

can i use 80 sched unions/fittings with sched 40 pipe?

stupid questions i know but im not taking any chances

Sch 40 & Sch 80 pipe have the same outer diameter so fittings are interchangeable, Sch 80 is thicker and so has a narrower inner diameter. Sch 40 is fine, your not running at high enough pressures to justify spending the extra money.

Why are you hard plumbing your setup? I use barb fittings and flexible tubing on all of my tanks.

Folks seem to use either/or. Just curious as to your reasons.

i am hard piping because the tubing is a mess and makes it really difficult to perform easy maintenence. plus i dont have alot of space to work with so i need it to be more accesible under there. Ive got a pretty good size return pump so i am not worried about the additional head loss

Sch. 80 bulkheads will NOT fit the same holes as Sch.40 bulkheads. If your tank is predrilled, it will most likely be drilled for sch. 40.

Save your cash and get the 40 imo.

Barb fittings are for amatuers and losers! :)

Hard plumbing is the only way to go if you want a clean and professional installation.

Thanks! on teh BRS GB the sched 80 pipe is cheaper than the 40 at home depot..im gonna stick with the 40 because of the bulk heads

G i used a threaded id bulkhead on my supply so if anything happend i could unscrew it and reuse it, I also used a long striaght piece of 3/4 pvc going to the sump so it would pull up through the hole in case of an emergency. On drain i used a slip and just slid the 1 inch drain pipe into it no glue so i could turn it if needed

I use hose barb to connect to my pump via clear braided tubing to cut down on vibration, so i think hose barb has its advantages in certain instances the rest is pvc

just 5' though!!

sch 40 and get threaded. no need to buy high pressure stuff, and threaded so you can just cut the pipe and unscrew it if you need to do/fix/replace anything
