Is there an advantage / disadvantage to WHERE in the sump you drop it? In the return chamber? Does it effect skimmer prrformance if it's in that chamber?

I'm not completely sure. However, I do know it's always best to drip to a high flow area to help the effects of Co2.

I also wonder if dropping on in an area like the return would disperse CO2 because of surface agitation therefor limiting the ph drop

That's exactly where I have mine dripping. Tons of surface agitation.
