Can anyone Identify???

I found this behind my zoo's a few weeks ago and it is growing. It looks like a cocoon and has attached it self to the wall and the rocks. It is about 1 inch in size maybe 2 and growing. There is a hole on one side but I never see anything come out of it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it maybe or any advice on what to do with it??

Can you see through it...is it translucent?

If it is indeed a sponge they are harmless filter feeders and a good little freebie.
