can freshwater sand be used?

So b/c of the petco sale, i bought a 20 gallon tank to do a freshwater tank. I put sand in it that i bought that was for Freshwater.

Now i pulled a "dietz" (haha, J/k), and decided that I don't want it. I'm selling it to my friend who will be doing a saltwater tank.

Can he still mix some live sand in with this "freshwater" sand? Will it cause problems? He just wants a couple of clownfish.

As long as its aragonite and not silica sand I don't see an issue
