Hey guys my 125 has been set up for about a year and 3 months now half the time it has had a fuge with it, I don't really know wat pods look like but a tank a year old should have enough to keep a mandarin right?

I would bet you have pods but they eat ALOT. Before I got mine I would see pods all over the sand bed exspecially at night when the lights go out. get you a flashlight and wait about 20 minutes after your lights go out and look really close across your sand bed, that's when I'd see hundreds.

Odds are if ya don't see them, they are still there but maybe not huge quantities yet. Try picking up some rocks and see if you see little "fleas" crawling all over. Your sump should have them as well. Do you have other fish that feed on pods, like wrasses? If so you may need to wait a little longer.

Wait till the lights are out in the display. Get a flashlight and look into the nooks, crannies, caves ect. and you should see swarms of pods. Extremely small, maybe the size of 1/10th of a flea or smaller.

Randy, you should get a video of your cave, it is a prime example of what they look like when they swarm.

Well the fish are fine, they aren't high pod eaters. Just look for them tonight and then decide. Simon has quite of few at Nemo Fish Store off of Indian Trail. I think they need a good home, soon.

Me thinks it will be to hard to get a video but it is pretty cool they are that predominant after just 4 months. Thousands of pods!!!!!:yay: I'll give it a try with the HD flip. We'll see...

Here's something to think about:

I started this discussion to get input from others, so I'm not advocating adding flatworms to your system, as your experience may vary. Just food for thought.

I will be looking tonight when I get home to see wat all I have in there but I have asked my local petco guy to order me one, our petco has actually stepped up a notch good quality.

ok i just got home and looked into tank i turned lights on and forgot to look but five min later i looked and i see a lot of white little bugs on my glass some big some small, but they are scatterd acoss the glass. look like head lice lol would this be pods? i dont see any on rocks tho. I will look again in a few after lights go out again, i always turn on when i get home lol.

Is it possible to get pod eggs and grow em in a culture? Or another question can you get frozen pods and if so would a mandarin except them, I am pretty sure these white bugs I see on my glass moving slow are pods but I want more just in case but the fish is orderd.

Lol to late its ordered :) I will do everything possible to make sure it has enough pods :) wich I think I have already plenty

I bet you you have a good supply, and I know lfs do carry pods in a bottle. I thought about adding one to my tank after seeing pods at a local store, but after doing some math it would cost me over $100 a year to keep a mandrin.

That's assuming you would have to feed him pods. They will propagate in your tank. You may consider pe mysis shrimp, mine just started eating them. YAY!

FWIW, I was able to get mine eating prepared foods by mixing cyclopes with live pods purchased from a store and introducing them at the same time. Eventually he was eating frozen brine as well, but cyclopes and bring weren't enough to support him. He still got thin and I ended up giving him away.
