can i use live rock from my "fish only" tank to put into my reef tank?

my "fish only" tank has one time or another, been treated with fish medication. i am guessing there was some copper in the meds.

so will it be okay to use like one rock from the fish only tank, and put into the reef tank?

Copper-exposed rock is generally considered off limits for future reef use. I don't know how sensitive the tests are, but if you elect to use the rock I'd at least get a copper test kit and see if there is any detectable on the FOWLR tank's water.

ok, thanks. that's what i thought. i definitely wouldn't want to chance it with all the money i got in my reef tank.

well, i guess another question is, don't LFS's sometimes take in trade in's on live rock, and then we buy from LFS's. or when u get rock from another reefer. HOW ARE U SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF IT'S NEVER BEEN TREATED BY COPPER?

...

one of the risks of buying LR from an individual...

you can assume that most LR purchased from a fish store is purchased by the store for the intention of being used in a reef tank (therefore clean of copper)
