A lot of the stores i go to that have clownfish dont seem to have the real nice and bright clowns.
Is it just their diet? or do i just have to find a bright one?

I usually brighten up after 5pm and with a nice cold one - you can try that.

Also, what species are you looking at? I find the ocellaris to be a lot brighter than the perculas.

yes i know this. but is that a come on? because i would think that most of the ARC stores would be feeding them these flakes...i guess not?

Short answer: yes.

Fish will naturally fade in an aquarium setting. There are colour enhancing foods you can use. There are also natural foods that can have a dramatic affect on colour.

Also, some stores have very poor lighting or no lighting which will alter the appearance of the fish. When placed in better lighting, the fish may appear more colourful.

I think he meant that if you read the fish a book, it will increase it's intelligence, thus make it brighter..

Most color enhancing foods contain large amounts of beta carotene canthaxethan (sp) . They color things orange. When I adopted my son, he was only eating gerber sweet potatoes, and he had carotenosis, he was orange from the sweet potatoes, I'd say it works. These things are also in tanning pills, take one for every 25 lbs of body weight a day and you glow a nice sun kissed orange.

RRaj, can you list some of the natural foods that would enhance color? Not that it would really matter to be, as I have B&W Clowns.... Not much enhancing there......

I feed BTA's color enhancing flake food with good results.

Haha! Yeah, it took me a little bit, too.

Are you refering to adult clowns or babies. Youngsters are a bit drab when young and color up tremendously with age.

i guess both. but with the right food ona young clown i should have good results.

Just another thought, clowns don't stay in stock long from what I see. Possible they are just stressed from shipping and are sold before they've had time to color up?
