Carpet Surfer...Suggestions?

Well my awesome tailspot decided to jump last night...RIP. He was the only fish in my 7gl and had so much personality. :sad:

What fish would y'all recommend that would work in a 7gl that has a similar personality, the tank is 24"X8"X9".

Same fish, but with a mesh top. There is a cheap and easy diy thread on here showing you how to do it.
