I cleaned my fuge and restarted chaeto a month or so ago due to excessive hair algae that overtook the chaeto. Within a week i saw hair algae growing from the seams of the tank and tried to keep it pulled out. Fast forward and the chaeto ball is basketball size but more or less covered in hair algae. I have been pulling out hair algae with little affect - at least it is only in my fuge. Any ideas to remove the hair algae, hopefully without starting my chaeto over again?

I would let it stay there, like you said at least it’s in the fuge, the cheato will out compete the hair algae for nutrients. I would recommend trimming back the cheato every two weeks and keep the innermost portion of the cheato ball, you should also pull the whole ball out and rinse it in clean saltwater.
