Chaeto trimming?

For me it's when the light does not penetrate the chaeto all the way to the bottom of the mass.  At that time you know it has gotten too thick and you need to trim or it will start dying off.

I'd think that if the chaeto is really keeping up with the levels of PO4 and NO3 then we could say that it would be time to always trim but leave enough to keep up with the levels, if the "struggle is real" (😂) on the levels, then, either the chaeto isn't growing because not enough nutrients, not using the specific PAR for the chaeto or lastly not enough or sufficient chaeto to fully take care of the nutrients.

I've seen many people using another methods to filter the water in conjunction with the chaeto.
