I have one BRS reactor. What would you run in it? Carbon or GFO. My idea is the carbon would need to be changed pretty frequently. I am very concerned about nitrates and algea.

Sort of an odd question. Really i am asking if i should run carbon. The BRS reactor isnt a big expense and I can get another one. Or maybe Purigen instead of carbon?

I am afraid i wont change the carbon out and it becomes a nitrate producer. And algea... nooooooooooooooooooo.... Could it do this?

I have a fairly small bio load right now, and run an octupus skimmer.

comments welcome.. thanks

get two or dual.

gfo def

if you have tangs, purigen, otherwise, rox carbon from brs.

Why do you say Tangs use Purigen? They dont like carbon?

Edit: Thanks for the advice. I will get another reactor, run GFO for phosphate removal. The other one I will run Carbon. Purigen seems to hard, gotta use "the bag" or something...

Thank you for your response.

There is a supposed connection between HLLE in tangs and the use of carbon. That's why Ralph said what he did.

There are instructions by falos for making a Purigen reactor here out of a BRS Media conainer here in post #8: http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63198">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63198</a>

I'll try that next. You can use "the bag" and just put it inside a BRS Media container, but you will need to pull it out and rinse it once in a while because mine gets clogged up with crud on the outside of "the bag." The purigen inside hasn't turned color to brown or anything, just the flow reduces a lot until you rinse it off.

I'll post a diy with pics on the conversion to high flow its time to change my puragin carbon is good but I only run it for 24 hrs 1 day a week usuly before waterchanges
