Ive had my Ecoplus 1/4 hp Chiller for about 8 months now, been a GREAT chiller. Ive noticed lately that the temp has been creeping up on teh display. I keep my tank at 78-79 and the chiller will kick on around 80 to bring it down.

Well, the display on the chiller will start to creep up throught the day. I came home the other day at it read 89!! I checked the water coming out of the chiller and it was a steady 78. I am not sure what the deal is. Anyone have a similar issue? Ive turned it off (left the pump running) for now as I cant trust it. I had a dream last week that I woke up and my tank was a block of ice. This was before I noticed this issue.....strange :)

Don't u have to calibrate the temp every once in a while? I do even with apex probes

Im not sure, my manual doesnt say much about it.

I wanted to start here beofre I called the MFR, I figured it is something really simple

I've seen displays go out....that doesn't mean the chiller isn't doing it's job. I also believe this is why most people run them through an external controller.

You can calibrate the chiller temp, I believe the manual tells you how to do that. When I bought my chiller (ecoplus 1/10 HP), the chiller temp would read 85 degrees when my water was really 79 degrees. I was able to calibrate it down to what my external temp probe as well as my controller temp probe (both read the same) was reading. It's been fine ever since then. I think I got my chiller about 2 weeks after you got yours.

Here Gary. followthe instructions for "Temperature tolerance."

Thanks Dave, I read mine at home too and didnt understand the tolerance part, the verbiage was confusing but now I get it.

When I turn it on the temp will read correctly, its through the day that it creeps up and up.

So lets say I turned it on and it read 79 on the display, 2 hours later it would say 80, 3 hours later 84 and so on. It got up to 88 at one point which kicked on the chiller trying to get it back to 79....problem was, the tank was already at 79 verified by RKE temp probe and commercial temp probe. I was not home at the time so the chiller was on all day trying to cool it to 70 degrees. Luckily my heater put up a good fight and it held it at 79 all day.

Do you have a spare outlet on your RKE for the chiller? I ran mine off of an RKL for over a year, they can handle the load.

Side note: I had a tank temp dream the other night too... for some reason I dreamed that we ran out of propane during a cold night and the house got really cold, so I went to check the tank and it was at 88 degrees. I still haven't figured out how my brain came up with that one.

Its currently plugged into an RKE outlet now. I do not have any programming associated with it though, just "ON". Even if I did wouldnt the chiller controls override the RKE? Or just set an alarm to turn the chiller off it below a certain temp?

I left it seperate in case something happened with my RKE I would still have chiller functionality.

The chiller controls would just "back up" the RKE. Set it (the chiller) a couple of tenths lower, and the chiller control will only do anything if the RKE says "it should be on" and the temp drops a little further than when the RKE should have turned it off. That make sense?

I also run mines off a controller. I have the chiller set to turn off at 76 degrees while I have my controller set at 78. That way he chiller will always be on and the controller will set it off before it drops below 78. When the controller shuts the chiller off, it shuts it off completely.

Thanks guys, I can try that.

Now, to find out whats wrong with the chiller as resetting the temp tolerance did not work. The chiller display is now reading 84. Bad thermostat? Ill have to call the mfr on Monday, its still under warranty.

Possibly. If you go ahead and program the outlet, you have no worries (just no failsafe, but you didn't have that before anyway) and you can use it until you get it fixed.

PS You have a PSN friend request

Mostly Uncharted 3. Haven't played the online yet (I never do until I finish the single player campaign). I need to get cracking and get it done. Plus my daughter has become fond of the co-op mode even though she will melee 30 enemies for every one she shoots.

I am still up in the air whether I'm going to pick up MW3 or jump ship to Battlefield 3.

I'm playing both right now and I must say. Battlefield 3 is much more realistic. I also like the fact you can fly all the air planes and helicopter as well. Super cool. It's cool how the bullets drop with distant as well.

Of course, MW3 is cool as well. I own all 3 of the Modern warfare.

I am almost finished with the campaign then I too want to try multiplayer. Let me know when you finish and we can try the online.

I am out on MW3 though, never cared for the series. I may rent Battlefield 3 at some point though. Ive been playing Ace Combat 6 which is pretty good if you like flying games. Its pretty tough though, some of the dog fights are intense...
