clam or oyster?

dumb question probably.. but i have three big clams or oysters attached to two pieces of liverock. I thought when i bought the rock that they were dead but tey have started to open and close throughout the day. Im assuming they are oysters because clams need a lot more lighting than i have. Is there anything special i need to do for them to keep them healthy?

lol okay. i was really surprised when they started opening up.. i thought they were just dead on there. they didnt open for weeks but lately theyve started to open up. its pretty cool. =)

They are probably Turkey Wing mollusks.

OK maybe not turkey wings, but mollusks nonetheless. We see them from time to time. Filter feeders - they don't "do" a whole lot, but they are interesting.

you don't need to do anything special to care for them, if you feel like it phyto feeding helps. but not not really needed.

im gonna have to take some pics of mine when its open. What about a muscle.. could they be muscles? I cant tell from Angcot's pics but i dont think mine look the same. Mine actually have lines/grooves going down them.. dunno how to describe it.
