i bought a clam today and it is attached to a rock already. can i take it off that rock or will he die? because the rock he is on is this little tiny rock and i don't think he will be able to grow out like i would like for him to.

Might be best to let him acclimate first...can't you put the rock in a crevice?

I wouldn't; you can with a sharp blade-, but being it is a new clam, I wouldn't-I probably wouldn't anyways

What kind of clam? How big is the clam? How big...er little..is the rock?

dont worry about it outgrowing the rock. It will grab onto whatever as much as it needs. It will actually feel more secure if it is hangigh onto something on its own. be forewarned, it may "jump", and leave a nasty hairy looking goober on the rock- DONT WORRY! This is somewhat normal. He will reattached when he is comfortable.

its a Derasa Clam and its about 3 inches and the rock its on is about 6 or 7 inches

You'll be fine. My 4" Derasa came attached to a 1" square "rock". He let it go while still in the bag and I put him on a 4x5" rock. He's happy as a...well, you know....
