Cleaning sump sponge

When and how do you clean the sponge in the sump? I'm 4 months in and have not cleaned them. They do not appear dirty and water is flowing fine although they have discoloured slightly which I would expect.

As for cleaning I suspect a water bleach solution soaking, a good rinse and squeeze and then air dry.

I clean mine about once or twice a week. You will be amazed at how much crap they hold even though they look clean. I rinse mine out thoroughly under hot water and then let them dry outside

I rinse mine every water change in the old saltwater before I dump it on the lawn.

Yup. Did it every two weeks on my nano.
