Cleaning Used Equipment

I picked up a used 20 gallon tank with a heater and HOB filter to use as a QT. What's the best way to clean this equipment to ensure I don't get any surprises?

Bleach or muratic acid always does the trick. I used a muratic acid bath on a $2,000 skimmer with no concerns whatsoever.

muratic acid and bleach is what we use at the store to clean used items.

Just make sure you <span style="color: Red">DON'T</span> try to take a short cut and mix the bleach and vinegar. Things will get toxic...
