I recently just bought a 90 gallon tank and was curious what brand of skimmer I should buy. I’ve always had nano tanks and it’s no sump or skimmers. So I am absolutely clueless when it comes to what brand I should go with.

First i have some questions.
How long have you been in the hobby?
Whats your budget like?
Do you mind buying a used one?

I personally like to save some bux by buying a used one on arc if i can find one. The only risk with that is who knows how the pump is and it might last 10 years or 10 days.
If you have a good amount of room under the tank a large collection cup is nice. Anything 6 inches or large will extend how often you have to empty it( unless you attach a skimmate colletor) Find one rated around 1.5 to 2 times larger than your tank. So for your 90 gallon shoot for a rating around 135 to 180 gallons.
Cheaper ones have less ability to adjust but work just fine expensive ones have all kinds of knobs and wheels and possible attachment ports to really try to dial it in but arent really neccessary its just a bubble tube that collects dirty foam. The expensive ones usually come with higher end pumps as well.
I personally would create a want to buy thread on arc looking for one rated between 135 and 180 gallons for a good deal
My .02$

I’ve been in the hobby for a few years but the biggest tank I’ve had is a 20g waterbox and haven’t had a need for a skimmer.
I was looking at buying the eSsence S-130 Reef Octopus skimmer but wasn’t sure if that would be good enough.
And I do have a decent amount of room under my tank.

Reef octo makes good skimmers. Thats a nice one with a nice price. If you want a skimmer for a good sized bioload id go for somthing slightly bigger. That ones max is 180. Itll work great im sure but for that price you can find an equal or even better one for less used on arc

Thanks for the advice!
