I have had a red & gold coco worm for a month. When it extends out of the tube it appears to have 2 heads. Last night I found one head out of its tube on the sand. The other head is still inside the tube, alive, and doing great.

So, I have couple of questions about the poped head
Is the poped head still alive?
Does it re-grow into another?

Here is a photo of the poped head that I place in refugium

thanks,

Mine does this about every 2 to 3 months. I've been told thats how they reproduce. I've not had one of the heads grow into another worm though. They always end up in a power head or a crab eats it. Maybe you can pull the head out and put it in a QT for awhile and see what happens. Be cool if you get it grow.

I have only read they dump their heads when freaked out and then grow them back. Mine has done the same along with the feather duster when I had my tank crash by heater. The coco is back with 2 heads after 6mo
