I've heard in the past not to use coconut carbon in reef tanks but is it OK to use as one of the stages in a RO/DI unit?
Thanks,

Interesting! I use rinsed coconut carbon on my 30 and never had a phosphate issue?!

I need to do some research on this- thanks heath!

I was gunna say you can use it as I havent had any problems but maybe my phosguard is pulling all of it out??

Interesting. I was thinking it wouldn't be a problem. I've seen it used is a few different RO/DI unit as one of the first stages. Wouldn't the downstream ro membrane pull any thing out that was leached from the carbon?

the first filter in a ro/di unit should be a pre filter.... then a "carbon block".... where do you plan on using this coconut carbon? and for the record I think it will destroy your di resin

The replacement carbon filters for my RO are coconut carbon and I have noticed no problems with DI resin. I would think the RO membrane would remove it prior to reaching the DI chamber.

If brs 's Carbon blocks are coconut then that's what I use also. I've never looked into it, I thought the op was trying to fill a chamber with loose carbon in a cartridge or something?

Yea I had to read it twice myself. Only looked at a few replacements filters plus the ones I use and all claimed coconut carbon...never really thought about it before.

Yup, I'm not trying to build anything I plan to buy a new RO/DI unit, I was just surprised that many manufactures use the coconut carbon for the carbon block.

I run coconut carbon as my second stage filtration... BUT I have phosguard and purigen afterwards.

I have a 7 stage rodi but have no clue if mine uses the same carbon or not in the pre filters...

I will be running a new nano and becayse of this post I went ahead and swiched carbon for it as its a new tank.

thank you !!!!
