Hi Guys,

I've been been keeping a 110 gallon mixed reef for about 18 months. I'm about to upgrade to a 225 gal system.

I've recently noticed a little red algae growth in my tank, which i've never seen before.

I have a refugium and I run a BRS 6 stage RODI unit. This weekend, I noticed the expiated TTDS reading was in the 18 range rather than being in the 1-2 range I thought it was in. I guess I got behind in changing the media in the rodi system.

My question is, should I discard the old salt water when I do my new build or use the old salt water and just add something like phosban?

Thanks for the help!

Michael

Hi Dr. Grady,
IMO I would treat the 110 with the phosban..assuming this product does not harm corals or inverts....and then cycle the water to remove the product and then the 110 water would be safe.
Maybe with someone else with more experience with this product will chime in too. LMK if you need me to come to your home and help you with the change over. Good luck...MIKE

Go with new water. No better time for a huge water change!

That would be a great way to go also +1 Skriz...I did not even think of that.
