I found an old tv console that I want to convert to an aquarium. It looks like a 29 gallon is going to be the way to go fit-wise, but I obviously can't have a sump. With that being said... How would you set it up  - lighting, filtration, etc.? It needs to be quiet, and there isn't a ton of room on the top for one of those lights to hang over it. Also, I definitely want an LED lighting system. Oh, and did I mention I'm a starving college student? I need to keep this as cheap as possible.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Fun project.  I've seen a few of these done.  I would do the tank with a false back wall so that your filtration is behind it.  Much like a BioCube is done.  Makes it simple and clean.  Lighting can be accomplished with low profile LED's such as Marineland makes.  You won't be able to keep a whole lot of high light specimens but otherwise you should be fine.  The cabinet should keep it all fairly quiet.  Make sure you vent it somehow to expel heat and moisture.
