I want to convert filtration from a canister to a sump. I was totally new to salt water set ups when I started and didn't do the proper homework when setting up my equipment. I don't have a drilled tank but I would like to run a sump. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can get the tank drilled if you know that it hasn't been tempered. Usually it costs $20-$50 per hole to drill it depending on where you go and how big the holes are. Then you would have to get an overflow box put on the tank.
Or there are several companies that make "hang on the back" overflow kits. Which is going to be a much cheaper option and less messing with the tank to get it running. You just have to be careful with back-siphoning on some of these types of overflows.

I luckily bought a drilled tank with a wet dry sump. However I wasn't happy with the nitrates so when I moved my sump downstairs a couple weeks ago with a little help from Jenn and her boneyard, I added a drilled refugium and a Nurce ATO. I dumped the bioballs and added LR. I still need to put in a bubble trap for the return and tidy up, but Im really happy how it turned out. look around maybe you can find a drilled tank on craigslist to suit your needs

For the up grade... one possibility would be to wait for Petco's dollar per gallon sale and pick up a 40 Breeder ( 36x18x16) and drill the tank, it's not hard to do at all -just go through the back. The biggest tank that the have on sale is 55 gallons. I've got some glass hole saws if you need them, however I'm a bit north of you. Or, you could pick up a kit from gl*******s.com. If you borrow the hole saws , you are only looking at about 50 buck...ish.
