Just wondering what peoples opinion is with a Coral Beauty in a reef tank. Has anyone had any bad experience? Read that they can nip at corals and I'm debating on whether to get one or not. Thanks

I picked up one a few years ago, it's started nipping at sps polyps within 20 minutes of being added to the tank.

You read right... they CAN. Some do, some don't. My Flame Angel has been great, but some dwarf angels are more risky than others. Any of them are a roll of the dice, though.

my flame is a model citizen, no nipping at corals or my clam... (knock on wood). Now that I said that he is going to eat every coral I have......

I have a coral beauty that has been great! (knock on wood) I think like everyone has already said, it really just depends on the individual fish.

Thank you all very much for your input. I think i am going to chance it and go ahead and get one and see what happens.

I put one in my tank and it started nipping at my new ORA Organ Tort. I was so mad. Shame on me. If there is any doubts......Don't do it, unless you are willing to take that risk.

I added a Coral Beauty to a predominantly sps tank a few months back. It constantly grazes on the LR, and occasionally nips at a coral. I'm not sure it is going after the coral, or if it is just indiscriminate in it's grazing for algae. It doesn't seemed to have done any damage to my sps's, but I don't have very good polyp extension any more. If I had to do it over again, I don't think I would put the Coral Beauty in that tank, although it is a pretty fish

Some Centropyge sp. are more risky than others. Coral Beauties are "generally" OK, but it really is a crap shoot. I had one that ate Xenia but nothing else.

Had a flame in one of my maintenance tanks that loved open brains - Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia but left everything else alone.

Eibli, Lemonpeels, definitely NOT a good risk (among others) - but YMMV.

Our potter's angel has been great with about 35 different corals (5 kinds of zoas). I feed 2x a day and keep algae sheets in with them. Not letting them get hungry may help! I also have 100+ lbs of live rock to graze the algae off of.
