Is there anything you dose to make your coral colors more vibrant? Mine seem to be not as colorful, especially my zoanthids. I dose Reef fusion 1&2, Fuel, Kent Tech M, and occasionally oyster feast.

If you have money and time, Zeovit.

If you have time and no money, vodka.

If you have no time or money, pray to the coral god . It'll be likely he won't answer.

You forgot one importan point on the vodka. OP is only 16. :-) Ask your DAD or MOM to dose vodka. LOL

What is Zeovit? And if i were to dose vodka, how much? Just the thought of putting alcohol in my tank scares me!!:o

Should be just about everything you need to know about vodka dosing.

Thank you! I'll have to read up on it!

That was a nice article, but is this really a common practice? I'd be interested to see how many people dose vodka.

I was just reading over that. I don't really understand still how i'm supposed to dose it(It's a little advanced for me even though i've been in the hobby for 4 years now).

Haha! Don't worry... Not advance at all. All you really need is some cheap vodka and a plastic syringe to measure and dose with. Start off slow with a small amount like I'm sure the article suggests and work up from there. My coral colors really popped when I did it. I'm trying pellets now, but am also recovering from a high Alk event in my tank so colors aren't what I would like right now.

One thing to remember with vodka dosing is that you need to make sure you stay consistent with it. Everyday without fail.

Can I just start with 1mL and go up eventually? And do I have to dose everyday 365 days of the year?!?!

I plan on changing bulbs soon. 2 blue plus, 1 purple plus, and 1 aqua blue special.

Wow. I thought I had heard everything until I started reading this thread. Vodka...who woulda thought and who discovers this stuff lol

So are the colors more vibrant because they're drunk or because of the reefer's "beer goggles?" haha. Thanks for the article. I think I'll stick to praying to the coral gods until I get more versed on this stuff.

Hope that works out for you! Lol

Just following http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/member.php?u=2912">Thanh386's</a> advice!

Like your signature... the smarter I get, the dumber I feel!

I started dosing about a while back, I didn't really see a different in anything. Also, this stringy type stuff was growing in my sump so I quit dosing.

Regarding the OP's original question-

amino acids are important for corals and coloring, imo. Specific trace elements and/or metals are known to be required and affect coloration.

FWIW- I carbon dose (calcium acetate) and consider amino acid addition critical to my success.

Here is some reading reference. You didn't mention the type of corals you desire to color-up (other than zoa's), so-

For sps-

In general, here, go knock yourself out-

I dose Fuel weekly. The corals I am mainly referring to are Zoanthids, candy cane, frog spawn, GSP, and a favia.
