Got this coral awhile back from the LFS. Wife bought it for me. When I ask them what is it I was told "I don't know some kind of hard coral".......really and your the owner. Help me out gurus of salt.

Definitely looks bleached, but maybe not quite dead (do the polyps still come out?)

My guess is https://www.google.com/search?q=montipora+digitata&client=firefox-a&hs=6P4&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=uVaXUvTCOMa1kAeAh4D4Dw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1344&bih=678">Monitpora digitata</a>.

This was the way it looked when she bought it from the LFS. It has tiny pink polyps all over it with the exception of the growth tips. It does appear to have some whitening at the base. It's pinker than the picture shows. It will slim up a little when bothered.

What Jimmy said. If it's bleached, it's lacking zooxanthellae (symbiotic algae that convert light into food energy). It won't tolerate high lighting until it regains its zooxanthellae population. Over time, if it makes it, it will darken a bit more.

Could be that too - that possibility crossed my mind. Same thing though - it looks bleached.

Looks like something may be using as a snack bar near the bottom. May want to double check it for AEFW.....just to be on the safe side.

It is glued to the rock. I know the eggs can survive a dip but for what its worth I use coral RX on all things coral. I got myself a handheld magnifying glass to help with looking for critters. I'm not 100% sure I would see the eggs if they were there. Looking at the pics online seems pretty hard to see.

Edit: I think my thumb may have damaged the flesh a little bit when I broke it off its mount to glue it on my rocks????
