Anyone have any expirence with this light or other corallife lighting in general? Do i need to replace the bulbs included or are they sufficent? Is there better bulbs out there? Why has this been discontinued?

Reef usage has moved on to T5 fluorescent lighting. You will find an extremely limited bulb selection in the CF Format. It was cutting edge 15 or so years ago. I remember when CF lighting was introduced. It is not that it wouldn't work. I would also suspect that PAR from T5s is better that CF as well, but that part is a guess.

Coralife has gotten out of old technology with that fixture, and you will probably see that fixture replaced by a similar length one configured with T5 bulbs instead.

Well just bought this light a week ago =( from a very reputable store which I wont name.... wish they would have told me this was ancient technology.

Ask if you may return it, even for store credit if need be. They may not, but you can try.

I think its our responsibility to do some research on what we want/need for our tanks. Its great to have stores help us out but at the end of the day its still a business...

I agree and thats precisesly why I said I wish and then chose not to mention their name.

What tank are you using this on? I had the same fixture on a 55 and it worked fine for lower light softies.

I did the same thing with my lighting. I bought an all-in-one fixture with double ended halide bulbs. Not bad, but I started noticing that a lot of successful reefs had certain brand bulbs, with a different brand ballast, and a different brand reflector, so ultimately I ended up buying separate lighting components. Ended up trying three different brands of SE bulbs before I found the one i like. So you are not alone in that.

Well then, I'd stick with what you have until your tank or coral preference tells you otherwise. If your zoas and shrooms are happy and reproducing, and you like the color your light is giving them, then stick with it. But if you decide to keep LPS or SPS, then look at other available options.

I think the mushrooms and zoas will be fine. If they require more light they'll let you know. If you're anything like me you'll want to move onto hard coral and you'll need more light at that point.
