Sea urchins do love to eat coraline algea but some kinds can also scratch acrylic (and eat through cord protectors!). The ones I have found with the least damaging, scrapping ablitiy is a small tuxedo urchin. Just my opinion. I find manual scrapping for the tank is best as you can do it with out scratching it.

Anyone ever tried a Vinyl squeege? (The tool they use to put decals on cars and such.) They're made of a material that won't scratch paint and they're ultra cheap. Not sure how well it'd take off coraline but for the price/safety it might be worth a shot.
