CPR SR6 Protein Skimmer Pump Upgrade

So I've been having problems with my protein skimmer for months, I've changed the height of the skimmer in regards to the sump. I've added a gate valve to force the water to stay in it longer, but now I think it's simply the pump. I currently have a rio 2100 with a venturi adapter and it produces lots of little bubbles, but the bubbles don't grow into large bubbles of scum to actually get out of the skimmer.

So, I've heard people upgrading their pumps for this protein skimmer, I'm just looking for some recommendations on upgrades.

On my rio it was the venturi, try cleaning it
