I was given a softball sized bidsnest some thing that looked like a nest w/ green colorful furlike coating maybe acro? Anyways one of my red leg hermit crabs got on top of it and from the point he touched started turning gray now whole thing is dead??

I'd check water parameter, usually crabs don't kill coral. they were there maybe because they sense decaying tissue?

That's what I am thinking and any birdsnest is not the easiest thing to care for

Tell me about it, I had witnessed at least 5 birdnest frags dying on me. I love them and monti caps, but they bleach out faster than any acros/other sps.

I do 20% water change per week to keep nitrate down now.
