I'm setting up a new tank, and I purchased 110# of cured live rock from someone getting out of the hobby and put into my 75g yesterday. I took a vat of salt water with me and kept the rock in the water for the ride home. Once home, I laid the rock out in front of the aquarium for 30 minutes tops, but it stayed moist. I was hoping to avoid die-off, and hopefully was successful.
I ran my skimmer for a while last night, and will run it some more this week. I have the circulation pump running continuously. I will do a 20% water change in 4-5 days, and after that as needed. I won't be adding any livestock (with the exception of a possible CUC) for several weeks.
Other than the water change, what else can I do to be proactive and increase my odds of reducing algae and unwanted critters, etc.? What tests do I need to be performing?
Thanks for any input and suggestions.
