Custom overflowing clam tank (nano-reef.com

Hope no one minds if I post a link over to nano-reef.com. this is one of the coolest tanks I've ever seen. I had been researching zeroedge aquariums(too expensive imo) when I came across this guy's homemade tank. Now I am planing on building a similar one. I'm trying to decide between 24x24x14t or 30x30x14t. If anybody knows where I can get 3/4" to 1" acrylic sheets locally it would be helpfull. Enjoy.

very nice! The 125 i just setup has no eurobracing but its glass.

Do you have any pictures posted? Unbraced is the only way to go. Must be why I like the tanks at Cap Bay so much.

Interesting idea but here are some of the design flaws I see right off the bat.

His evaporation will be more than he can top off very easily since the water will be draining over all 4 sides. He will have no horizontal view from any direction except straight down, which depending on the surface turbulance will be close to zilch! The stand he currently is using, looks like it's made out of pressboard, will collapse when he fill it full of water. Pressboard is quite weak, especially when it get wet, which with all the overflow on each side will surely create splatter, creep. Wish him luck definitely!

man I'ld run into my room screaming like a lil girl thinking my tank is overflowing, but then realizing its supose to do that........pretty cool idea, man I wonder what his calcium demand is on that tank with all those clams. Do you think its possible for a small fish to get sucked over to the other side? I know it wouldnt generate a lot of pull but there has to be some.

They have a video too! It's at the bottom of the Models page. Visibility looks good on all the ones I have seen so far, the trick is in leveling the tank and overlowing plenty of water so that surface tension keeps it flat. I think. Do a search on reef central, several people have built this type of tank and most of them look spectacular.

That is pretty sweet. With my cats, the thing would turn into one bit water bowl or one big hair ball... Hell, I found may cat last week swimming in my 45gal RO tub so I am sure he would be fishing as soon as he could figure out how to.

I wouldnt feel comfy ever putting fish in there either. it wouldnt take much to have one end up as fish jerky on the carpet.

Thats true but if a fish goes over the falls it just gets washed into your sump. Also It looks like the visibility through the running water does not look like a problem. Here's another one from nano-reef.com
