Dead Clam?

So as I was cleaning off the glass a little, winding down from the day, I noticed my clam was a little open, but no color is showing. Poked him a little with my tongs, and nothing. I assume he's dead. Dang, I only had him 1 week. He was a beautiful teal maxima. No idea what happened...all params check out fine, but I DID change a filter sock this morning. I washed it in Woolite about a week ago and rinsed the bejesus out of it before letting it air dry in the laundry closet. Nothing gets sprayed in there and all other inverts appear to be just fine. I am sad...

I don't knowif this will help but it's an interesting read

I've misplaced my log somewhere, but they were the usual. Calcium was a bit low at 400, but I'm going to double check that with my Sera test. I thought Woolite would be best because it wasn't so harsh. Like I said, I rinsed the heck out of that thing and let it dry for a week.

Sorry about the clam . How's the alkalinity? That can have an adverse affect on them if it is too far off. I don't think it would be sudden death though.

Very good article! I never knew to keep an eye out for some of those things. I also suspect that I should wait until my new skimmer is up and running before I attempt another shot at a clam. My guy died pretty much over night, so I'm pretty sure it's not a matter of light. I have 6x54 T5s that sit right on top of the tank. And the clam was at a depth of about 19 inches from the surface. Too much light maybe? One thing that worried me was the overhead traffic he was getting. My tang is very active, and was always passing over the clam causing him to "clam up" I wonder if that was very stressful on him. Poor little fella...RIP, buddy.

Alk was right at 9dkh, just like always. I guess it could stand to be a bit higher though.

Thanks Steve. You know this was the clam you sold me, man. I wish I could have done better to keep him, though. I'm going to hold off on another one until I learn some more about them and until my skimmer is up and running.
